The Abarth 695 Biposto Named Favorite Sports Car

The Fiat 500 is known for its customizable options and its versatility. The Abarth 695 Biposto is just another example of the many ways a Fiat 500 can be outfitted to be one of the fiercest competitors on the road. Abarth vehicles were first produced in 1949 and were well known in Europe for their performance capabilities. The Abarth 695 embodies all the classic performance aspects of the name Abarth and packs it into a modern and elegant Fiat 500.

Sport Auto, Germany’s #1 car magazine, gives awards for the best sports cars in the industry each year. The Abarth 695 Biposto was awarded the top pick for the standard small cars segment. The 695 is equipped with a T-Jet 16 valve straight 4-cylinder engine that produces 190-horespower with 250 Nm of torque. It comes with a Garret GT 1446 turbocharger, 5 speed manual dog-ring transmission, and the classic Abarth by Akrapovic exhaust which gives the 695 a distinct and satisfying exhaust note.
“In the sports car segment, the Abarth 695 Biposto held its own against very strong competitors. Wining in this segment is further confirmation of our strategy to make racing sports technology available in standard production cars. ‘Born on the racetrack, for life on the road’ is more than just a slogan for us,” said Harald Koch, Brand Manager Abarth.

The Abarth 695 Bipisto is completely stripped down of any unessential parts which drastically reduces its overall weight. The 695 Biposto weighs only 2,198 pounds. This weight is achieved through the use of carbon fiber components and polycarbonate windows. This allows the turbo charged 4-cylinder engine to deliver a truly exhilarating driving experience. To add to the performance enhancements, the Abarth 695 was given a custom racing exhaust, high performance Brembo brakes, and a height adjustable sports suspension. The entire package sits on top of 18” light steel rims. The interior is also tuned for performance offering driver and passenger Abarth Corsa racing seats equipped with four-point harnesses. The rear seats have been completely removed and replaced with a titanium pillar to improve torsional stiffness of the vehicle.

It’s not all engine power and carbon materials that got the Abarth 695 recognized as the best sports car in its class. The “dog-ring” transmission is a unique performance gearbox that is generally reserved for racing vehicles only. Currently the Abarth 695 Biposto is the only street legal vehicle that offers a “dog-ring” transmission as an option. “Dog-ring” transmissions have wide cut teeth that allow for a small amount of RPM mismatch when shifting gears. Unlike standard transmissions that need to match RPMs before being thrown into gear, a “dog-ring” transmission allows the driver to shift into the next gear without having to utilize the clutch. Simply let off the throttle for a split second, throw it into gear, and then its petal to the metal. “Dog-ring” transmissions allow for the fastest manual shifting possible and is ideal for quick acceleration in any driving situation.

The Abarth 695 Biposto is an amazing feat of engineering that proves just how customizable the Fiat 500 really is.
