Sting / Shaggy Video Opportunity for the FIAT 124 Spider
In 2018 English rock singer Sting and Jamaican reggae artist Shaggy released a music video for their new song, “Gotta Get Back My Baby”. The other star in the video is the Fiat Abarth 124 Spider, under the premise that Sting and Shaggy are detectives with a job to do, and they will need an automobile to accomplish it. They borrow the precious car of their captain. The license plate, “My Baby,” is a significant detail. The video is reminiscent of the old Miami Vice show from the 80’s about two cops with swagger and a beautiful car. The two detectives are driving around wishing they could have a car this nice.
The Abarth 124 Spider is a beautiful car and in the course of their detective work it gets stolen by the very person they were trying to capture, hence the song, “Gotta Get Back My Baby”. The single spent 17 weeks on the Billboard Reggae chart. The last words in the video are from Shaggy, “It wasn’t me”, a reference to one of his earlier hits, ‘It Wasn’t Me”.
